The word “Egyptian” is not enough unless the passport type follows it. Russia’s current official table gives exemptions to specified Egyptian diplomatic, service and official passports. It does not place the ordinary Egyptian tourist passport on a visa-free route, and Egypt is not on the unified e‑visa list.
For an ordinary passport and a holiday, expect a regular tourist visa.
Build the file from the centre
The centre of a tourist application is a coherent trip supported by the document the responsible mission accepts. That commonly means tourist confirmation and a voucher from an authorised Russian host organisation.
The invitation should settle facts later used in the application:
- host organisation and reference;
- traveller’s passport spelling;
- dates;
- cities;
- number of entries;
- tourism as the actual purpose.
Complete the official form after these facts are stable. A guessed hotel or invented host can turn a simple field into the most suspicious line on the page.
Cairo resident and Egyptian expatriate
An applicant living in Cairo first checks the procedure of the Russian mission serving Egypt. An Egyptian citizen living in Riyadh, Dubai, Paris or Milan has a second issue: whether the local Russian post accepts applications from resident non-citizens and what remaining residence validity it requires.
The residence card chooses the desk. The Egyptian passport still chooses the nationality route.
Holiday, negotiations or employment?
A short duration does not make every activity tourism.
- Sightseeing and an ordinary holiday point to tourist support.
- Meetings and negotiations may fit a business visa and business invitation.
- Paid work needs the relevant employment route.
- University study begins with the institution’s process.
If the itinerary includes both leisure and a professional activity, identify the main purpose honestly and seek category advice rather than selecting the cheapest invitation label.
Multi-city and accommodation
A Cairo–Moscow–Kazan itinerary can be perfectly ordinary. The invitation and application need a real, intelligible plan; they do not need a minute-by-minute diary. If accommodation is not final, use an issuer and process that can lawfully handle the actual planned trip, and update facts before submission when necessary.
Do not assume a booking-platform receipt is the same as visa support. They answer different questions.
Allow for separate clocks
There is no single “Russia visa time.” Count:
- confirmation of the route and filing post;
- invitation issuance;
- appointment availability;
- consular processing;
- passport collection or courier.
Urgent invitation delivery does not control the consular decision. Keep enough margin to correct transliteration, dates or an unsuitable entry count.
The Egyptian ordinary-passport answer
For short tourism, begin with the regular tourist-visa checklist and accepted invitation format. For meetings, work or study, use the corresponding host-led route. If the passport is diplomatic, service or official, stop using an ordinary-passport guide and confirm the exemption that applies to that exact document.
