A Namibian ordinary-passport holder currently has a visa-free starting point for Russia. The official MFA table states a stay of up to 90 days. For a covered holiday, there is no regular visa application and no reason to buy a tourist invitation.
What still needs checking
Visa-free does not mean preparation-free. Confirm:
- passport validity and condition;
- real purpose of travel;
- total intended and previous stay where relevant;
- carrier and transit-country rules;
- insurance and practical medical cover;
- accommodation and arrival-registration arrangements.
Residence and second passports
A Namibian citizen uses the Namibian rule when travelling on that passport. A foreign citizen resident in Namibia follows the citizenship in their own passport. If a dual national chooses another passport, the route must be recalculated and that document used consistently.
Activity matters
A 20-day holiday can fit the visitor exemption. A 20-day paid installation project can require a work route. A university semester clearly does. Duration is only one axis.
The separate ruID check
Before a visa-free departure, check the current ruID experiment on Gosuslugi. Many covered travellers are asked for an advance declaration, normally 72 hours before entry; emergency timing, exclusions and the exact traveller scope belong to the live official guidance. This step does not replace the bilateral exemption or turn a visitor trip into permission to work.
After arrival
Hotels commonly handle migration notification. A private host may have receiving-party duties. Keep copies of relevant arrival and accommodation records and use current official guidance.
The Namibia answer
For ordinary short tourism, confirm the live visa-free rule and skip both the e‑visa and invitation. For work, study or residence, let the Russian host begin the correct process.
