Documents to prepare for Zimbabwe

This is the central official baseline for the route shown here. The responsible post depends mainly on filing location and lawful residence, not passport nationality alone.

  1. 01

    A readable passport valid for at least six months on the application date.

  2. 02

    A recent digital portrait and passport identity-page image that meet the official portal rules.

  3. 03

    Medical insurance valid in Russia for the whole stay, unless an official exemption applies.

  4. 04

    An MFA portal application between 86 and 4 days before entry; no invitation is required.

  5. 05

    An authorised checkpoint, purpose and stay compatible with the unified e-visa.

Check the local list before paying and again before the appointment: photograph, insurance, filing method, fee and originals can vary. An invitation is not a visa or a decision guarantee.

A Zimbabwean tourist can currently begin with the official e‑visa portal rather than a tourist invitation seller. Zimbabwe is on the unified e‑visa list. For the right purpose, one entry and a stay of no more than 30 days, the invitation is unnecessary.

The present rule, not the archived one

Current official instructions give the unified e‑visa a 120-day validity period and allow up to 30 days in Russia. Older pages still showing 60 days of validity and a 16-day stay are describing the previous framework.

The e‑visa is still single-entry. A trip leaving Russia and coming back needs another route.

Application window

Submit from 86 days to 4 days before intended entry. Use the official processing period as a rule, not a reason to plan at the final minute. A returned photograph, payment issue or changed checkpoint can use the margin you thought you did not need.

What the application needs

  • a machine-readable passport meeting the current six-month-from-application validity rule;
  • a clear identity-page image;
  • a recent compliant portrait;
  • accurate trip and accommodation information;
  • the government fee unless an official exemption applies;
  • insurance valid in Russia for the entire stay, absent an exemption.

It does not need a tourist invitation or hotel confirmation as purpose evidence.

Family trip

Each traveller, including each child, needs a separate application. Current rules exempt children under six from the official fee but still require their application. Check each final PDF against the correct child’s passport rather than saving every file as “visa-final.pdf.”

Harare itinerary examples

Harare–Addis Ababa–Moscow, 15 days

One Russian entry and an approved Moscow airport can fit the e‑visa. Confirm the exact airport and insurance.

Moscow, Minsk, Moscow

This can create two Russian entries depending on the precise international route and border arrangements. Do not assume the e‑visa survives a side trip; map every border crossing.

An event can be within e‑visa purposes, but paid work and contractual activity may alter the category. The Russian organiser should clarify the legal route rather than relying on the label “cultural.”

When to use a regular visa

More than one entry, more than 30 days, employment, extended study or a non-approved checkpoint moves the trip away from the simple e‑visa fit. The correct regular invitation depends on the actual purpose.

The Zimbabwe answer

For an ordinary short tourist journey, start with e‑visa and do not buy an invitation. Use the calculator to count the stay and filing window, then confirm the live checkpoint list before paying for anything non-refundable.

Questions people ask before they commit

Is Zimbabwe eligible for Russia's e-visa?

Yes. Zimbabwe appears on the current official eligibility list. The route is single-entry and permits a stay of up to 30 days.

Do Zimbabwean e-visa applicants need a tourist voucher?

No. An invitation or hotel confirmation is not required for the unified e-visa route.

Can a Zimbabwean citizen use e-visa for work?

No. Employment needs the proper regular work route. A short assignment does not become tourism because it fits inside 30 days.
