Russian regular visa application checklist

A regular visa checklist has a general core and a local layer. Follow the responsible consulate or visa centre for category, nationality and submission-specific documents.

Regular visa application

A Russian regular visa file has two checklists: the category’s general logic and the responsible mission’s local procedure. Print the local list, then use this one to catch the contradictions that a list of nouns cannot see.

1. Correct visa category

  • Actual main purpose identified.
  • Tourist, business, private, work, study or humanitarian route matches it.
  • E‑visa and visa-free alternatives checked first.
  • Requested dates and entries fit the category.

If the category is wrong, collecting more documents only makes the wrong file heavier.

2. Responsible application location

  • Mission or visa centre accepts your application.
  • Residence evidence requirements checked.
  • Appointment or postal process understood.
  • Current fee and payment method checked.
  • Processing and passport-return timing planned.

Save the official checklist URL and date accessed.

3. Passport

  • Correct current passport.
  • Required remaining validity.
  • Required blank pages.
  • No damage affecting identity or visa placement.
  • Copies made where requested.

Nationality and application location can change detailed passport rules. Follow the mission.

4. Invitation or host evidence

  • Correct category-specific invitation.
  • Traveller data matches passport.
  • Dates cover the trip.
  • Entries cover every Russian arrival.
  • Purpose and host are truthful.
  • Issuer and reference details verified.
  • Format accepted at application location.

Do not edit an issued PDF yourself.

5. Official application form

  • Completed on the official platform specified by the mission.
  • Name and passport copied exactly.
  • Purpose matches invitation.
  • Dates and entries consistent.
  • Host details copied from correct final document.
  • Travel, occupation and history answers complete.
  • Form printed, signed and dated as instructed.

If the invitation is reissued, update the draft before printing.

6. Photograph

  • Current dimensions and format checked locally.
  • Recent, clear image.
  • Face unobstructed and background compliant.
  • Attached or uploaded as instructed.

Do not assume e‑visa digital-photo rules are identical to a printed regular-visa photograph.

7. Insurance

  • Policy covers Russia.
  • Traveller named.
  • Dates cover required period.
  • Medical and repatriation requirements met.
  • Certificate language and insurer conditions accepted.

8. Category and local evidence

Depending on case, the checklist may request:

  • accommodation or itinerary;
  • employer letter;
  • proof of residence;
  • financial evidence;
  • business host letter;
  • birth certificate or parental consent;
  • previous passports or visas;
  • additional category-specific evidence.

Do not add random documents to appear serious. Add what is required and what directly explains a material fact.

9. Fees, appointment and return

  • Consular and centre fees separated from invitation cost.
  • Accepted payment method known.
  • Appointment confirmed.
  • Courier or collection arranged.
  • No travel requiring passport during processing.

10. Final four-pass review

Person: every identity field matches passport.

Trip: dates, entries, cities and purpose agree.

Host: invitation, issuer and form references agree.

Procedure: correct location, signatures, photographs, fees and copies.

After the visa is returned

Before leaving the application centre, if practical, or immediately on receipt, check:

  • name;
  • passport number;
  • visa type;
  • validity;
  • entries;
  • annotations.

Compare with the actual itinerary. An invitation shows what was requested; the visa shows what was issued.

{ useful questions }

Questions people ask before they commit

Is the invitation the complete regular visa application?

No. It is one supporting document. The file also includes the official form, passport and other evidence required by the responsible mission.

Can I use one embassy’s checklist in another country?

Use it for general orientation only. Follow the mission or authorised centre responsible for your application location, especially for fees, insurance, residence and submission procedure.
