Use the private lookup above first: it compares the document number, passport number and nationality with the issuer record without asking for an upload. Then proofread the invitation as a border between databases. The question is not whether the document “looks professional”; it is whether each important value agrees with the passport, trip and issuing route.
Prepare the four things to compare
Open or print:
- The invitation in its original delivered format.
- The physical passport you will use.
- The intended itinerary with border-crossing dates.
- The latest visa-application draft, if already started.
Do not use a cropped phone screenshot if a full PDF exists. Do not compare against an old passport or a friend’s application.
Check 1: the traveller
Read each value aloud or mark it character by character:
- surname;
- all given names;
- date of birth;
- citizenship;
- passport number;
- sex or other required identity field;
- passport issue or expiry details if displayed.
Pay special attention to 0/O, 1/I, doubled letters, hyphens, spaces and leading zeroes. A familiar name encourages the brain to see what it expects.
Check 2: the journey
Verify:
- intended arrival date;
- intended departure date;
- number of entries;
- Russian cities or route;
- accommodation or host information where present;
- purpose of visit;
- invitation validity or covered period.
Trace every exit and re-entry. A side trip to another country divides one holiday into two entries from the visa’s perspective.
Check 3: the category
Ask a plain question: what will the traveller mainly do in Russia?
Tourist support should align with tourism. Business evidence should align with genuine business activity. Study, work, private and humanitarian routes have their own logic.
If the category was chosen only because it was cheaper or faster, stop. Correcting a purpose mismatch is not a spelling edit.
Check 4: the issuer
Identify:
- legal organisation name;
- address and contact context;
- relevant registry or authorisation details;
- invitation, confirmation or voucher number;
- issue date;
- responsible host where applicable.
Then verify through a source not controlled solely by the document. A real organisation should survive a search beyond its own logo.
The 60-second checklist
Before submission, every line below should be a confident yes:
- Name matches the passport.
- Passport number matches.
- Date of birth and citizenship match.
- Dates cover the intended border crossings.
- Entries cover the entire itinerary.
- Purpose is truthful and consistent.
- Destinations and host details do not contradict the form.
- Issuer and document references are present.
- The responsible application location accepts the format.
- No one has edited the issued file locally.
What to do if you find a mismatch
Do not submit first and ask later. Contact the issuing service through its verified channel and provide:
- order or document number;
- field as issued;
- correct field as shown in the source record;
- whether the correct value was supplied and approved earlier;
- appointment or submission deadline.
Share the smallest necessary evidence securely. A correction request about one letter does not belong in a public comment with the full passport attached.

These require different responses.

Visual warning signs
Visual quality is not proof, but certain problems merit a question:
- text overlaps or is cut off;
- personal data appears in two different spellings;
- a seal floats above obviously edited text;
- document numbers are missing or inconsistent;
- the organisation name changes between sections;
- unreadable resolution hides important fields;
- metadata or filename suggests an unexplained applicant edit.
Do not run a confidential document through an unknown online “PDF verifier.” Verification should not create a fresh privacy incident.
Check the visa too
The invitation check is not the last check. When the regular visa is issued, compare its name, passport number, type, validity and entries with the passport and journey immediately.
The authority may issue terms that differ from those requested. The document you travel on is the issued visa, not the hoped-for invitation dates.
